MONDAY APRIL 21
I got my acrylics out after dinner to work on a few abstract landscapes with my palette knife. The photos are provided by
’s community, and it’s been really nice painting from everyone’s landscapes.

And then I joined
for her Weirdo Drawing Club zoom session where we drew some fashionable furry friends!

TUESDAY APRIL 22
I think this week I’m really going to try to finish up my Japan sketchbook! It might end up being all spreads of Ray and friends, like this one of him and DJ Offsyde:
Or him and I. I used the Kakimori dip pen and ink for these and just love how smooth it is!

WEDNESDAY APRIL 23
I was in the mood for a drawing session today, hoping I would be able to make it to
’s live this afternoon but couldn’t quite swing it, so I pulled up another recent .This one started with us drawing animals from memory, which went surprisingly better than I thought it would given my extreme lack of being able to draw from imagination.

Then we drew from reference.

THURSDAY APRIL 24
Well my goodness if I didn’t decide to upgrade my computer today and everything went to sh!t for the start of ART HANG PARTY!
It’s the same thing that happened last time and I was unable to stream. Everything was choppy and my sound was broken and it was so stressful, especially because it was 50 BIRDS IN 50 MINUTES day!
Thankfully Loren (the provider of images for today) mentioned switching over to zoom in the chat, so I quickly set up a meeting and a good number of us were able to hop over there.
After a few deep breaths we got back into the drawing while chatting away about birds and art supplies and things. (I’m really starting to think we need a regular zoom session for AHP, like maybe a monthly?)
I have ordered a bunch of new art supplies1 and the first to arrive was a pot of ArtGraf! I have been debating for a while whether I needed the pot or not already having the stick, but after this session I have confirmed that the answer is an emphatic YES.

Ray was out at a gig where coincidentally the bar was having tech issues and their sound was all messed up and he couldn’t play. He helped them figure out what the issue was but he was unable to fix it. The good news, aside from him still getting paid, is that he was able to fix my issue, so we’re all set for next week!

FRIDAY APRIL 25
I decided that no matter how sleepy I was I was going to start my day by joining
on her 7am zoom session, but instead of catching up on abstract landscapes I filled a couple of spreads in my Japan sketchbook. This is a scene from Shibuya. I started with by colour blocking using Holbein cake colours and then added the line work on top.
This one was funny! We were sitting at Starbucks while it was pouring rain, waiting for the malls to open, when Ray looks over at the guy beside him and does a bit of a double take. The guy was dressed exactly the same as him! Camo jacket, black pants, white Stan Smiths.

SATURDAY APRIL 26
I finished my Japan sketchbook! ☺️ It feels like a bit of a weight lifted, but also I have really enjoyed work on it over the last month or so since we got home from the trip.
Do you keep travel sketchbooks? I think it’s such a great way to remember and revisit a trip!

I have already filmed and posted a sketchbook tour, which you can find below!
I also drew along to the
drawing club replay that I missed this week with all the pink animals. I definitely didn’t stick to the timer on all these, and left out a couple towards the end, but it was a super cute session!Oh and tomorrow is going to be fun! I’ve organized an IRL art date with local AHP friends! I’ll tell you about it tomorrow, but we’re doing a bit of an art supply swap of unwanted materials. A while ago I made these little air dry clay palettes that I was thinking of selling on my shop, but the shipping costs just didn’t make it worth it, so I decided this would be the perfect opportunity to find them homes. I filled them with some Turner watercolour I bought last time I was in Japan. I think they’re cute!

SUNDAY APRIL 27
Today was the best! A group of us -
, Steph, Ann, Sarah, Ann, Eileen, Abha and Cindy - all met up for an IRL drawing date! It’s amazing how comfortable it feels meeting new people and hanging out (as someone who once considered themselves extremely shy and awkward). We couldn’t have asked for better weather! The sun was shining and we were able to sit outside in the park, even shedding layers as the day went on.
We started at Queens Park, moving locations every 10 minutes or so.

Then we walked over to the Bata Shoe Museum where we spent time sketching all the shoes from the beginning of time.

And of course when you get a group of artists together a trip to the art store is always in order. A few split off, but a group of us walked our way through the beautiful UofT grounds to everyone’s favourite art store.
More of these days please!

This is a fun one! I filled part of this sketchbook while on vacation in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan earlier this year, and then worked my way through filling the rest of it after I got home.

I know! But hear me out. I started the year with the determination of not buying any new art supplies. And then I remembered I was going to Japan and that just wouldn’t fly. So I decided to shift my stance a little (ok a lot) by setting my art supply to budget only the amount received thanks to the generosity of art friends ordering / supporting me on Kofi and YouTube ad revenue payments.
