MONDAY JULY 7
Today’s self portrait was my main art activity today. I was thinking we would go sit in the park but it was too hot so I went all in on this one.
TUESDAY JULY 8
Today is Ray’s birthday and I made cake!
After dinner we sat outside in the park and enjoyed the slightly more cool evening temps.
I was extra limited in my supplies today. Pink and Compose Blue from ShinHan Pass, Lyra 9B graphite pencil and a blue Pentel brush pen.

WEDNESDAY JULY 9
We went to sit outside again after dinner, but shortly after we were settled the sky behind us started to get dark so we packed up after 20 minutes to head back inside. There was s storm on the radar a little north of us.
So then I settled on the couch to watch a little MasterChef Australia and started a new embroidery piece.

THURSDAY JULY 10
Today was Animals in Action at ART HANG PARTY!
I thought back to the last time we did a dedicated animal session, which was Negative Space Animals, and remembered how much fun that was so I decided to do it again.
Before we started I flooded a few pieces of (the worst-textured) watercolour paper and cut them into pieces. Then for the session I used a black pencil and combo of black Neocolor II and “art crayon”.
We started out with three minutes on the timer but I quickly (yes me, I) realized we needed another minute on the timer so the bulk were done in 4 minutes.
Here are a few of my favourites!

And here’s a flip through of all the animals in action:
And just for fun, very much inspired by
and her amazing sketchbook animations!Today’s self portrait
FRIDAY JULY 11
I was up early and knew I wouldn’t have my regular evening of art time today so I joined
and the BSA group for the Friday morning zoom! The photo of the day was submitted by
of her ex-band mates circa the hipstamatic era 🎞️ and I painted it using only 12 strokes. Then I moved on to
’s photo from the other day of her daughter surfing. I forgot to keep counting after 3 strokes. This one is tiny, probably less 2 inches tall but I definitely went over my self-imposed max of 20 strokes.I did actually find myself with some spare time in the afternoon so I pulled up the replay of
and ’s Strawberry drawing session! It was very cute, and I loved all the strawberry facts Helen shared.
This session was the perfect time to finally use this little watercolour palette I made out of a Strawberry Shortcake suitcase that came with a doll my friend gave me for my birthday that I filled with half carmine and half opera rose!
This evening was the kickoff what’s sure to be a pretty fun and busy weekend!
It’s the annual Goodbeat Weekender here in Toronto! A celebration of house music and community and it means it’ll be some late night and good friend times!

SATURDAY JULY 12
I think I’m finally getting the hang of markers!
After sneaking in the above landscape and dropping Simon off at the sitter for a sleepover I headed out the next party. There was a dance battle happening when I arrived, which was really fun to watch which then morphed into a proper party.
Here’s a photo I orchestrated of the night’s DJs: Ray, Coflo, Tyrone Solomon and Justin Corrado
Today’s self portrait
I’m going to leave it here for today as there’s more fun to come! I’ll be doing some live art during the final leg of the party and I’ll try to capture as much of it as I can to share next week.
If you’re in Toronto come to Joe Bird to draw with me! It’s a free event!
