MONDAY APRIL 8
Sunday’s Celtics game against the Trailblazers was a bit of a reunion game, as two beloved players were traded there last year, and one Toronto-born(!) player was traded just a few weeks ago.
You could always tell how much they all liked each other when they were playing together and it felt like a big loss to lose both Robert Williams III and Malcom Brogdon. But to see all the hugs and smiles at the end of the game was pretty special! 🥹
So when it came to art time I thought it would be cute to draw the photos!
I did not expect that when I shared them to my stories and tagged the players I was able, that ROBERT WILLIAMS THE THIRD would not only see my story, but share it! And not that, but send me a DM telling me he loves it and asking if he can buy it!
I replied saying I would happily cut the pages out of my sketchbook and send them to him! I haven’t heard back yet but Ray is optimistic. WHAT THE HECK!
UPDATE: I have yet to hear back but still so exciting!
TUESDAY APRIL 9
Today was the big total solar eclipse day. I couldn’t seem to get myself excited for it in the days leading up, but as soon as it started happening I felt like I really should have got myself some glasses so I could watch! It was really cloudy here, but Mother Nature is going to do what she wants. It was still really cool to watch the sky get darker and darker until it looked like midnight. Even out streetlights turned on!
And I guess with the eclipse my drawing for the day is kind of fitting! During my morning run yesterday I ran over to and through Trillium Park where there is a light-based art exhibition currently running. One of the pieces was so stunning I just had to stop running (well, jogging really and let’s be honest I needed a break) and take a photo of these waxy glowing wolves!
I prepped my sketchbook spread with acrylic ink earlier in the day and then when it was time I did some negative space drawing and filled in the background with a black Neocolor I.
WEDNESDAY APRIL 10
Sophie McPike just launched a new Draw This In Your Style over on IG and you know I had to do it as a single line drawing. There was no other way.
With so much going on, all the different shapes and thing, this was actually quite the meditation.
THURSDAY APRIL 11
I feel like it was a maybe a bit ambitious of me, but I decided to join the
”Waiting Dogs” session this afternoon with and !It was at 4:00 and felt far enough away from ART HANG PARTY! that I could fit it in and still get Simon his walk and make dinner and everything else that happens. Which I did, with time to spare!
The session was great, the dogs were beautiful, and it was fun to see both Beth and Sam drawing at the same time!
And then it was time for LANDSCAPE WEEK at ART HANG PARTY!
Instead of starting with blind contours we started with one colour at a time for 10 seconds each!
Then moved up to two minutes:
Then five minutes:
Seven minutes:
Ending with a ten minute:
This format and theme is classic art hang and took a lot of us back to the beginning when we used to meet in Sophie’s discord! Good times!
FRIDAY APRIL 12
Today’s sketchbook spread is a scene that Karliina Anna shared in a recent YouTube video about graphic design in Copenhagen. She shared little clips of logos and illustrations throughout the city, sprinkled in with some architecture and things, and boy howdy, it’s a pretty city isn’t it!
I used Kuretake paints, a white China marker as wax resist (it was so hard to see the white on the paper!) and my trusty black polychromos coloured pencil.
SATURDAY APRIL 13
I took a trip up to the art store to pick up a few things for a new painting commission(!) and then worked on that for the better part of the day.
I can’t share it yet but it’s cute!
SUNDAY APRIL 14
I woke up with a migraine so that was fun. I got my hair cut. I worked more on the commission. The sun is shining. I had a good snuggle with Simon.
If I have a play in my sketchbook I will be sure to share it next week!
I didn’t film a video this week so I went looking through my library and totally forgot that I filmed the process for this painting! It is my favourite ever piece I’ve made - enjoy!

Ok, that’s it for me!

I have an idea: toys we used to play with in the 80s and 90s. Maybe from a Toys R Us catalogue?
Woww cakes!!! 🤩 Shall I draw cakes from bed? 🤔
