THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5 @ 7:00PM ET on YouTube
When the host of the Instagram page PUGSOFINSTATGRAM (hi Loren!) asks if you want to collaborate on a 100 PUGS in 100 MINUTES session you have to immediately say yes please!
And then you go and look her account and see she has over 700k followers and feel your extremities get tingly.
Anyway, this might just the cutest AHP session yet! I hope you are all as excited as I am!
Loren has reached out to her pug-people and we have 100 adorable pugs all lined up to draw, one minute at a time, one after the other after the other. You probably know by now that I set these 100 minutes up to run on autopilot - I just press play and we are off and pugging! 😅

MONDAY NOVEMBER 25
I pulled up the Awkward Animal Headshots game over at
for some quick and fun playtime in my sketchbook.

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 26
Bit of a random one today… after doing my quick self portrait I pulled out my sewing machine to make myself some warm compress pads for my eyes, which seem like they are never not dry these days.
Hot water on wash clothes feels nice, but it gets so cold so quickly and it is annoying having to stand over the sink reheating the cloth every 30 seconds. When I was last at my sister’s my niece made her some microwaveable pads that seemed to hold their heat and feel really nice, so I thought it was finally time to make my own.
I cut circles out of some baby-soft wash cloths, sewed them together and filled them with rice. Easy peasy!
Then I decided to finally, finally, clean out my closet. I pulled e v e r y t h i n g out and threw it on my bed. I was pretty brutal with what made it back in. I ended up with less than half the hanging items and very roomy dresser drawers, with two big garbage bags full of clothes for donation.
It feels so good!

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 27
My sister shared some photos of her and my niece at Redrock Canyon and I thought it would be fun to make her a painting to commemorate their trip!
As is the way with acryl gouache, I combined a few of her photos into one. And after last week’s composition fail, I even sketched out thumbnails - see my self portrait below.
Ray thinks the background is a little distracting and suggests I tone it down, simplify, take out all the majority of the detail. I kind of agree but I think I’m going to sleep on it and decide another day.
I like it, and I’m pretty happy with the likeness I caught, especially with my niece. I think my favourite bit is my sister’s sunglasses!

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 28
It was Interiors day ART HANG PARTY!
During last week’s session I sort of committed to using acryl gouache this week. I can’t for the life of me remember why I said this, but it was probably because someone else was brave enough to use paint and thought I should be too.
The trouble is that since then I received my partial order of Cretacolor Megacolor pencils and I really wanted to use them!
So, as 7pm was coming closer I thought I should ask the group what they would prefer for timing - short and fast, no more than five minutes per reference and I would use the pencils - long and slow, ten minutes per reference and I would go with paint. Take the decision out of my hand!
I looked up to see if you can do polls on YouTube livestreams and you can! So I did!
But the decision was really made in the chat, not by the poll LOL.
It was decided that we start with quick 1 & 2 minute warm ups, for which I would use pencils:

Then we settled into 5 minutes for the rest, for which I decided to push myself and use the paint.
I definitely felt the pressure of the timer on this one 😅 but it was a lot of fun!
I also made this and sent it to my sister and friend to send back to me next time I say I’m chopping my hair off, LOL! It’s not that I don’t like my hair short but I think I like it better when I can put it back or up in a bun. Definitely never bangs again!

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 29
I was up early enough to join
for her Friday morning zoom session that she has with her substack and patreon group (it’s lovely and you should consider joining!). She’s following the #gouachevember prompt list and today’s theme was “sit”, so I had a look through my google photos and saw one of my favourites of my cousins giggling on grandma and grandpa’s couch as my sister showed off her new fuzzy slippers.I wasn’t awake enough for gouache so I used the Cretacolor Megacolor pencils and had a good time scribbling away, drinking coffee and chatting with the group. A lovely way to start the day!
As I was waiting for dinner to cook I thought it would be fun to look for a few more photos to draw, and settled on my cousins with animals.
No likenesses were achieved in any of my drawings today, aside from the goat looking like a goat!

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 30
I met up with a couple of friends for brunch, but before that stopped in at my favourite art store. I always like to get something new and fun when I go, in addition to restocking sketchbooks and whatnot, and my friend saw these “grey tones” dual markers from Faber-Castell that looked like they would be fun so I joined her in picking up a set.
Here’s me testing them out while we waited for our fried chicken and pancakes :)

SUNDAY DECEMBER 1
It’s 1:25pm as I’m writing this and I think it’s safe to say I’m creatively spent! Very happily so.
I started my morning joining
on zoom for the first day of her “Birds in December”, which I’m going to commit to doing this month! Before the session I sketched out this macaw, along with the next 3 days of birds to help set myself up for succcess. I know I want to use acryl gouache for all these, but honestly since I added the second set I’ve been a little overwhelmed with colour choice, so I took a few minutes before diving in to painting the bird to swatch all the colours out. So helpful! Then I painted the bird, keeping it relatively simple and graphic looking.
I left the session early to make sure I was wasn’t late for
- back-to-back drawing sessions 😅’s theme for today was Vintage Hollywood, and the references were so good!I barely had time to think about what I was going to use. The Cretacolor Megacolor pencils were closest at hand so I grabbed the black and got started. The references were all black and white so I thought adding the light grey for some tone would work well, and then of course I had to add the pink cheeks.
Times ranged from 2 minutes to 15 minutes, and they all went by super-fast! I also think I draw my best people during Introvert Drawing Club sessions for some reason!

Always amazed with the amount of art you do every week Melissa (I know I always say this 😄), next year I will commit to get more consistent! That goat is simply perfect and OMG 100 pugs, crazy and cute in the same amount 😍😍😍
